 DOUBLE PICTURE FRAMES
If you have a lot of photographs to display and prefer matching frames, or if you rent your home and cannot put too many holes in the walls, a multi-opening picture frame might be just the thing for you!

Double picture frames have two spaces for images - usually the same size - but are connected, either using hinges or by dividing a complete frame down the center with another, matching piece of moulding. Because they are all one piece, they can often be hung using only one wall hook, which minimizes the number of holes you must put in your wall.

In addition to practical and decor concerns, double frames can be great for pairing up matching or related images. Read on for more ideas on how to utilize your double picture frame!

WHAT TO DISPLAY IN YOUR DOUBLE FRAME
There are many different uses for double picture frames. Often the best pairings come from photographs that are somehow related. The following suggestions can help you choose your images:

WEDDINGS

Love two images from your wedding, but can't narrow it down to just one? Why would you! Display both your favorites within one double frame. Consider one of the dance and one of the ceremony, or one where the two of you look somber and serious, and another where you're being silly. One with the parents of the bride, and one with the parents of the groom, or pair up an image of the bride and her attendants with one of the groom and his.

If you have old pictures, it could be neat to display a parents' wedding photograph in each opening. Alternately, match up an image from your own wedding day with a similar pose from your parents'. Anniversary photos can also join in the pairing. Consider using one of your old wedding pictures to determine the pose for your anniversary shot, and then displaying both pictures together.

FAMILY

Make sure each set of parents gets equal treatment with a double frame. Pair up the regular and the fun family photo, or the whole extended family on one side, and just your immediate relations on the other. A child's graduation can be displayed by placing a smiling image next to the classic Graduation Cap toss. Or pair up an old picture of the kids together with a recent one in the same pose.

Everyone loves to have multiple pictures of a newborn niece, nephew, or grandchild. A double picture frame is a great way to show off two sweet expressions.

The possibilities are endless!

PETS

Pets are part of the family, and their happy faces can really round out a picture frame. Showcase two of your favorite images or Spike or Mrs. Whiskers in a double frame, or display one of each pet. Two very similar images from a slightly different angle can also fill out a double frame quite nicely.

A SINGLE IMAGE

A unique, artsy way to make use of a double frame is to use only a single, panoramic image. Have the image split into two separate photos (ie: the right half and the left half), and display both in a diptych style. For example: the bride in one opening, and her long train in the other, or a young child reaching toward the edge of the photograph, and his pile of toys in the second space.

HOW TO DISPLAY YOUR DOUBLE FRAME
One of the great things about double picture frames is that you needn't make multiple holes in the wall. But a simple side-by-side wall hanging image isn't the only possibility for these versatile frames.

VERTICAL

Most store-bought double frames have hanging hardware for both vertical and horizontal display. While the horizontal option (two vertical images side by side) is generally more popular - probably because portraits tend to be vertical and that's what is commonly displayed - showing two horizontal images stacked one on top of the other can create a striking image as well.

EASEL STAND

Not all multi-opening picture frames are meant to hang on the wall. There are many double frames that are equipped with a folding easel back to prop them up on a table, shelf, or desktop. This style is great for pictures of the kids or pets for your office workspace, especially if you use a cubicle.

HINGED

Also for tabletop display, a hinged double picture frame is actually two separate, identical picture frames that are fastened together with hinges. Because they can fold closed, this style of frame is propped up by folding the two frames slightly inward so they sit on a 130° angle, or so. In this way, both images remain visible, but no additional display hardware is needed!

If you have lots of photographs you want to display, but don't want to buy countless picture frames, consider a double-opening frame. Whether you settle on a simple, modern matte black or a rustic, antiqued raw wood, your images will look striking in their matching borders.
